I've mentioned before how fond I am of old horror comics. Last time I was talking about a stack of horror rags from the 1970's I devoured when I was a kid (see post entitled "A Cautionary Tale Brought To You by Ghoul Books" about Hungarian-Romanian werewolf-vampire rivalry). But right now I'm thinking about those horror giants of the 1950's published by Entertaining Comics, aka E.C. aka William M. Gaines and Al Feldstein, soon to morph into Mad magazine. You know what I'm talking about. Tales From the Crypt, Vault of Horror, Haunt of Fear, etc.
Much has been written about these comics and their creators, so I won't bore you with that. What I'm going to bore you with today is their wonderful habit of constantly ending their stories by having a character discover something horrifying and shout "GOOD LORD!" usually followed by "*CHOKE*". I'm not making it up- this is an acknowledged fact:

It happens at least once, usually twice or more, in every single issue! Let me show you some examples:
A few years ago I heard there was an E.C. fan club that called themselves, simply, "Good Lord!" it goes without saying that I wish I could join this fan club, but I don't think they're around anymore.
